Supporting Your Child’s Reading at Home

At EBN2, we are committed to developing strong reading and literacy skills for all our students. Reading regularly helps improve vocabulary, comprehension, confidence, and overall academic success across all subjects.

How you can support your child at home:

  • Encourage your child to read regularly, aiming for 15–20 minutes each day
  • Ask them to talk about what they have read – who the characters are, what happened, and what they think might happen next
  • Where possible, provide a quiet, comfortable space for reading- a comfy sofa works great!
  • Praise effort, not just accuracy – confidence is key
  • Read together when possible, even for a short time

Reading can include books, magazines, news articles, instructions, or online texts – all reading counts. Students can choose a topic that interests them if they wish. Please contact the schools Literacy Lead, Mrs Kelly, or your child’s Form Teacher if you would like the school to provide any reading material.
